If the Minute Repeater's only function was to indicate the time, mainly at night when there were no luminous hands and no electricity, why is this complication still used today?
Gianfranco Ritschel from the Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie, and Martin Wehrli, Director of the Audemars Piguet Museum, surprised the audience with both the technolgo and the sound of the Minute Repeater.
Indeed, Martin Wehrli honoured the audience with his presentation of historical models, the brand's heritage, which can only be seen in the Audemars Piguet museum. His excellent explanations on these invaluable timepieces, and the sound of their chimes, were received in almost reverent silence, by the audience at the Geneva ESPACE CONNAISSEUR.
Both the history, and works,of this extraordinary complication, left watch lovers with eyes shining with joy, and ears resounding with the magical sounds that transported them to faraway fairytale places.
