Steel, gold and platinum, are beginning to rub shoulders with very varied, diverse names: silicon, alusic, titanium, zenithium, magnesium and lithium. The research and development centres of the Manufactures are exploring these materials, which enable technological advances whose scope we cannot even begin to imagine. A chance to experience these materials of tomorrow at the Geneva ESPACE CONNAISSEUR.
Thanks to Gianfranco Ritschel from the Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie, Pierre Gygax from Ulysse Nardin and Marc-André Glassey from Mimotech, the importance of technical innovation became apparent to the audience through the material itself. Raw materials were presented, and the issues encountered by the watch industry in relation to the new materials being used were explained.
This was followed by the ultimate surprise for watch lovers – when, under a binocular magnifier, the parts that make up the movement were revealed at close quarters.
A great memory for the ESPACE CONNAISSEUR, which remains a constant source of delight for devotees of fine watchmaking.
