Exhibition Zurich: 04.01. - 03.02.2017
Founded in 1735 by Jehan-Jacques Blancpain in the Swiss Jura, Blancpain is the world's oldest watchmaking brand. Driven by its own pioneering spirit, the timepiece maker has invented countless complications over the years and this quest for invention is what continues to inspire the master watchmakers of the brand today. Determined not to stay in its comfort zone, Blancpain is in a constant state of renewal, revolutionising watchmaking by upgrading its timepiece.
Blancpain has enjoyed historical links with diving since the 1953 launch of the Fifty Fathoms, the world's first modern diving watch. Today considered an iconic piece, this watch reflects the shared vision of Jean-Jacques Fiechter, the then CEO of Blancpain and a passionate diver, and that of Captain Robert "Bob" Maloubier and Lieutenant Claude Riffaud, co-founders of the "Combat Swimmers" unit of the French Navy.
In recognition of this heritage, Blancpain is committed to contributing to the knowledge and preservation of the underwater world. Convinced that public awareness is key to achieving environmental protection goals, Blancpain sponsors major scientific projects, underwater expeditions, marine photography, environmental protection forums, exhibitions and key research as well as having its very own dedicated internet site. The brand's commitment in this regard took on a new dimension in 2014 with the grouping of all its initiatives under the Blancpain Ocean Commitment banner. Since then, Blancpain has co-funded ten major scientific expeditions, celebrated its contribution to doubling the world's marine protected areas (an additional three million square kilometres thanks to the brand's financing), and presented several excellent documentaries, underwater photography exhibitions and key publications.
