As “The Leading House of Leading Names” and one of the few retailers with their own watchmaking atelier, it is very important to us to support and promote “traditional watchmaking techniques”. We are very proud to be an exclusive partner of “Time aeon”.
It was founded in 2006, when Stephen Forsey, Robert Greubel and Philippe Dufour drew attention to the following; the use of machines in the manufacturing process leads to a loss of ancient techniques and craftsmanship, the watchmaking culture is quickly disappearing. “Time aeon” aims to preserve the science and ancient secrets of authentic mechanical watchmaking via several projects.
The first one was started in 2007, “Naissance d’une montre – Le Garde Temps”. It follows the idea that the only way forward is to pass on the knowledge. The concept is to constitute a “living inventory” of skills, craftsmanship and ancient techniques by handing them on to a person who will have to create a complicated watch completely by hand, from raw metal to finished product.
Michel Boulanger, a teacher at the watchmaking school of Paris, will be the one to complete this project. He has taken several years leave to make a three hand watch with a tourbillon, completely handmade, using only traditional tools. He traveled to La Chaux-de-Fonds or la Vallée de Joux every month to receive advice from Philippe Dufour, Stephen Forsey and Robert Greubel.
At SIHH 2016, more than 7 years later, the first piece was presented to the public.
This first watch will be sold at auction by Christie’s Hong Kong in May 2016 and the profits made from this inaugural sale will go to the Time aeon Foundation.
The Les Ambassaderurs group is looking forward to being able to actively support this fantastic project.
